Just a stone’s throw from our farm lies a truly special place: Smygehuk, the southernmost point of Sweden and the entire Scandinavian Peninsula. Here, where the land ends and the sea begins, you’ll find a fascinating blend of history, nature, and Nordic serenity. If you’re spending your holiday at Kvarnviks Gård, a visit to Smygehuk is an absolute must!

Smygehuk – A Place of Vastness and Magic

Standing at 55° 20′ N, Smygehuk is as far south as you can go in Sweden. The view over the open sea is breathtaking. The breeze carries the scent of the Baltic, and seagulls soar above the old fishermen’s huts. Whether bathed in sunshine or swept by sea spray, this place leaves a lasting impression.

An observation platform right at the cape lets you gaze out toward the horizon. Standing there feels like you’re on the edge of the world – peaceful, powerful, and awe-inspiring all at once.

The Smygehuk Lighthouse

A true highlight is the historic Smygehuk Lighthouse, built in 1883. It is back in operation today and open to visitors during summer. From the top, you get a wide panoramic view of the coast and the deep blue sea. An unforgettable experience for both kids and adults – and just minutes from Kvarnviks Gård.

Café Smyge – Sweden’s Southernmost Shrimp Sandwich

If you need a little break, be sure to stop by Café Smyge. This charming spot is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and is considered Sweden’s southernmost café. Here, you can enjoy what might be the country’s southernmost räkmacka – generously topped, freshly made, and served with a view of the sea.

There’s also delicious cake and really good coffee. A true gem, combining comfort and quality. Our tip: sit on the small terrace, squint into the sun, and listen to the sound of the waves – it doesn’t get much better than that on a holiday.

Fishing Huts, Art, and History in Smygehuk

The former fishing village around Smygehuk’s small harbor exudes traditional charm. The colorful fishermen’s huts (“Hoddor”) speak of the area’s long history. In summer, the place comes alive – small exhibitions, the famous sculpture Famntaget by Axel Ebbe, and the lovingly restored Köpmansmagasinet with rotating arts and crafts markets all invite you to browse and admire.

Nature Reserve with Rare Flora and Fauna

Nature lovers will also feel right at home in Smygehuk. The surrounding landscape is rich with rare plants and animals. In summer, wild orchids and cowslips bloom, and the coastal meadows are home to protected species like adders and natterjack toads – a paradise for anyone who enjoys exploring the outdoors.

Our Day Trip Tip from Kvarnviks Gård

For our guests, Smygehuk is a perfect excursion – just around the corner from Kvarnviks Gård. The area is easily reached by bike or car in just a few minutes. You can also walk there, though you should allow for more time – the trail leads through beautiful coastal scenery and is perfect for a longer stroll or a short hike.

Bring binoculars, plan a coffee break at Café Smyge, and experience the beauty of southern Sweden at its finest.

And if you’re looking for a small souvenir to take home, you’re in luck: not far from Smygehuk, you’ll find the charming little shop Södrast. It’s full of delightful knick-knacks, decorations, postcards, and cute gifts – perfect for bringing a piece of your holiday back home.
